THE FIRST ENTRY: May 25, 1862

May 25th, 1862

We start to Hurricane Bridge, arrive there and gone to camp. It’s 12 miles from Coals Mouth. We called it Camp Brattin. 

July 10th, 1862

Co. K of our regiment came here to take our places. We are to go to Gauley Bridge.

July 12th, 1862

We leave Hurricane Bridge for Coals Mouth [renamed St. Albans in 1872]. Start for Gauley Bridge on a boat. 

July 14th, 1862

We arrive at Loop Creek. Co. D is here.
