Leadership Principles Stand the Test of Time

These leadership lessons are pulled from Silman’s daily journal entries, warfighting experiences, and the strategic context of his role in the American Civil War. They are meant to be timeless and have application to both military and civilian leadership. They are written by Silman’s 4th great grandson, Bryan M., who has continued the family’s lineage dedicated to military service.

Bryan is a West Point graduate, has commanded units from the company to the squadron level, and has 10 combat deployments flying the MH-47 Chinook helicopter as a 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) Nightstalker and as an Air Force JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) qualified TACP (Tactical Air Control Party). His personal lessons have been shaped by some of the most impressive leaders and warriors from America’s present day military.
